Our Beliefs:

Crossing Jordan Baptist Church will be known for its daily delight, desire and dedication to discover what God reveals through his word.

HISTORY OF OUR HUMBLE HERITAGE

In December 2006, God placed in the spirit of Dr. Mathis that his assignment at his previous assignment had come to an end. A few fragile faithful followers asked him to meet with them. There were 85 people that attended the meeting. These followers asked, “Where will we worship tomorrow?” For the next three (3) Sundays, we held 8:00 a.m. worship. After much prayer and deliberation, God made it clear what his agenda was for Dr. Mathis. God gave him the vision and instruction to stay in Valdosta with great clarity. There was work for him to do here and to start a ministry. Dr. Mathis was given the name “Crossing Jordan” at that time.

God gave Dr. Mathis the scripture Joshua 3:1-5. Crossing Jordan’s biblical background is also related to Joshua 1:3-7, 10, 11 and Isaiah 43:2. God has put everything into Crossing Jordan, this church will be known for its daily delight, desire, and dedication to discover what God reveals through His Word. Crossing Jordan Baptist Church will be a place “Where Jesus Is Exalted and the Word is Explained.”

Dr. Mathis was led to inquire about purchasing the building located at 1401 Cypress Street. On January 2, 2007, the members met and caravanned to the current location of 1401 Cypress Street and had prayer. Crossing Jordan Baptist Church held its first worship service at the new location on January 7, 2007.

Since then, many ministries have been birthed through Crossing Jordan Baptist Church as we press toward the mark of the higher calling of God and on May 26, 2009, we purchased our church campus.

It is our belief that what you think your God-given purpose is means more than anything else in your life. More than what you earn, more than where you live, more than your social or political position, and more than what anyone else thinks about you. There is no greater call than being a servant of God.
