Dr. Mathis at age 7, was called of God into the ministry. He was born to the late Lawrence and Lessie Mathis of Pinehurst, Georgia. Dr. Mathis is married to the lovely Betty J. Mathis formally of Douglas, Georgia.

While a pastor for almost 40 years he was called to engage in various mission work in the community.

After much prayer, God made his vision clear to Dr. Mathis---Joshua 3:1-5. It was at this time that Crossing Jordan Baptist Church was founded. A 1.5 million dollar campus was purchased on May 26, 2009. The Lord has been adding to the church as He sees needed.

Dr. Mathis believes, "What you think your God given purpose is means more than anything else in your life.  More than what you earn, more than where you live, more than your social or political position, and more than what anyone else thinks about you.  There is no greater call than being a servant of God. Dr. Mathis also believes that community service is the rent you pay for your stay here on earth. Jesus Christ paid the price-tag in full with the shedding of His blood for the entire world."

Dr. Mathis is a servant of God, husband, father, grandfather and friend of the community.
